Thompson & Thomas Team win again!!
BEST NATIONAL SMILE MONTH EVENT 2011 Steel city practice shines in annual awards
In a closely fought contest, Thompson and Thomas scooped the ‘Best National Smile Month Event’ at the glitzy Dental Awards ceremony on Friday night. Held at the Lancaster London Hotel, the Dental Awards recognise and reward the highest standards in UK dentistry and oral healthcare. The Sheffield based practice won the award for their ‘Better Late Than Never, Dentists’ on Tour’ campaign, beating off stiff competition from Northumberland based Guidepost Dental Practice, who were highly commended for their campaign. Thompson and Thomas Practice Manager Jane Armitage was delighted with the award, presented to the practice by President of the British Dental Health Foundation, Daniel Davis. Jane said: “It’s a great honour to have won this award. National Smile Month means so much to the practice as it’s a great way to spread the message of good oral health. Our campaign last year was special for so many reasons, and with this year’s campaign due to start in the coming weeks we’re geared up for another groundbreaking event.” According to Jane, planning for the event didn’t exactly go as planned, and only a special blessing from Foundation Chief Executive, Dr Nigel Carter made things possible. “I was diagnosed with a chest condition prior to the launch of National Smile Month which resulted in any large scale event being postponed indefinitely”, Jane said. “I contacted Dr Carter explained the situation and he granted us permission to hold the event at a later date. “The ‘Better Late than Never, Dentist’s on Tour’ event was held in October and as it was so close to Mouth Cancer Action in November, we combined the two Foundation campaigns so both could benefit. We found ourselves dressed up as Courage the Cat in support of Radio Hallam’s appeal, ‘Help a Hallam Child’ also wearing National Smile Month t-shirts running a stall filled with various competitions, raffles, and of course, information on all aspects of dental care. The response was quite breathtaking.” We had a market stall based outside Sheffield Town Hall and from here we gave free advice as Dentists on Tour. We had a remarkable response from the Sheffield public as we aimed to support not only the British Dental Health Foundation National Smile but also Radio Hallam’s Help a Hallam Child, Mouth Cancer Awareness, and St. Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield. In total we spoke with approx 4000 people.
Commenting on the awards, Sophie-Marie Odum, chair of the judging panel and group editor at Purple Media Solutions, said: “The event was a huge success. I would like to thank those who entered and congratulate all the winners.” The Foundation wishes to thank Colgate for their support and generosity and welcomes other commercial sponsors to help raise awareness of this ever-growing disease.
